QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

• Grade 12 diploma or appropriate related educational qualifications deemed acceptable by the Employer;
• Valid class G driver’s license and safe driving record;
• Proven ability in maintenance trades, i.e. heating, venting, air conditioning pneumatic controls, electronics, electrical, plumbing, welding by way of trade certificate or education and/or experience;
• Experience in institutional maintenance an asset;
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations of measuring, estimating, costing and testing;
• Ability to use hand and power tools, welding, brazing, soldering equipment, and various testing devices;
• Ability to work within limits and standards set by procedures, policies, legislation, and specifications;
• Ability to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision;
• Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety Workers’ rights and responsibilities;
• Dependable, competent and continued ability to carry out responsibilities;
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skill with the ability to function effectively independently, within a team, with front line personnel , and management;
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast paced healthcare environment with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload;

• Proven ability to perform the essential duties of the position on a regular basis.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Director of Facilities, Capital Planning & Engineering and the Manager of Maintenance & Engineering in the efficient operation and maintenance of equipment/facilities and provision of security services.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Ability to use company cellphone to access and update the Maintenance Care System, which provides the assigned daily duties.
2. Responsible for painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and heavy maintenance inside and outside the Home including grounds as required.
3. Repairs and maintains plumbing, heating, air conditioning, pneumatic controls, electronic equipment, and other auxiliary equipment as required
4. Carries out on-going maintenance program including heavy cleaning on grounds and equipment
5. Responsible for movement of supplies and furniture throughout the Home as required.
6. Responsible for security of Home as required.
7. Attends staff development programs and meetings as assigned by the Manager.
8. Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s family, visitors, and other staff
9. Performs other related duties as specified by maintenance manager

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Spatial perception to visualize form drawings, sequence of parts assembly and relative positions of components;
• Capacity to work where exposed to physical hazards such as noise, moving parts, and equipment heights, confined spaces, chemical odours, dust, and adverse weather and environmental conditions such as heat, humidity, and cold;
• Possess eye-hand-finger coordination and manual dexterity to handle parts, tools, and operate equipment in order to dismantle, clean, repair, assemble, adjust, and perform functional tests;
• Form perception to make visual comparisons in shape and general conditions when assessing parts wear or defects;
• Ability to climb and balance on ladders and scaffolds, stop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, finger, and feel;
• Visual ability to differentiate between colours and undertake close inspection of objects;
• Ability to work rapidly under emergency conditions;
• Good hearing ability in order to recognize sounds that indicate equipment malfunctioning, emergency sirens, paging, and warning devices

The Casual Maintenance I position is responsible to the Manager of Maintenance & Engineering

• Salary as per Union schedule.

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT:

• This position may be required to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends
• This position may be required to work on-call.

POSITION AVAILABLE:

• This position will commence ASAP.
