Biomedical Technologist

The Maintenance department has an opening for a Biomedical Technologist. The successful candidate must be able to meet the normal requirements of the job and possess the following qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

  • Possess an electronic technologist certificate from a recognized college or university, with a minimum of three years’ experience/an extensive electronics background in microprocessor- based equipment, practical and basic theoretical background in both analogue and digital electronics based on 3 years or more experience.
  • Diploma/Certificate in Biomedical Electronic Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Dependable, competent, and continued ability to carry out responsibilities.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
  • Good hearing ability to recognize sounds that indicate equipment malfunctioning, emergency sirens, paging, and warning devices.
  • Colour vision to identify colour coded wires.
  • Have numerical ability to compute arithmetic calculations, in testing, installing, and estimating.
  • Spatial perception to visualize equipment and layout or the relationship of parts form circuit diagrams or drawings.
  • Eye-hand-finger co-ordination and manual dexterity to handle parts and use hand tools, power tools and test equipment.
  • Finger dexterity to pick up and install small parts such as springs, split-pins, spacers, capacitors, filters, micro switches, relays and transformers.
  • Ability to work rapidly under emergency conditions.
  • Ability to handle a variety of changing duties resulting from the complexities of electronic apparatus and equipment.
  • Adaptability to work in situations involving exposure to high voltage wiring, heights, confined spaces, moving parts, chemicals, odours, dust, adverse weather and environmental conditions such as heat, humidity and cold.
  • Must be registered as a Biomedical Electronic Technologist with the Canadian Certification Board for Biomedical Electronics Technicians and Technologists within two years of employment.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the job.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Director of Engineering and Environmental Services in the efficient installation and maintenance of biomedical and electronic equipment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Repair, install, replace and test biomedical and electronic equipment.
  2. Maintain inventory.
  3. Conduct the required electrical and safety check to meet electrical and CSA standards.
  4. Create and Maintain files on each piece of equipment.
  5. Assist in developing policy for maintenance and repair of Biomedical equipment.
  6. Record all work performed utilizing the CMMS program.
  7. Report medical devices problem to Health Canada and equipment manufacturer.
  8. Offer assistance and/or instruction to co-workers.
  9. Perform other general maintenance as required.
  10.  Participate in fire drills, evacuation exercises, internal and external disaster and civil program exercises.
  11. Participate in the Department's Quality Management/Risk Management program.
  12. Carry out all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures. (ie. Occupational Health and Safety Act)
  13.  Perform all duties required for the safety and welfare of the patients and staff as designated by Director of Engineering and Environmental Services.
