Full Time Mental Health & Addictions Counsellor

REPORTS TO (Title):

Director, Mental Health & Addictions

Riverside Health Care’s Mental Health and Addictions programs provide counselling and regulated psychotherapy to adults 18 and over for a wide variety of issues across the Rainy River District. Riverside’s Mental Health and Addictions program provides a supportive team environment with multiple programs to facilitate quality services for our district. Riverside strives to offer ongoing training, education, and developmental opportunities to its Mental Health and Addictions team to best serve the community.

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

  • · Master’s degree in a human services field (psychology, counselling, social work) preferred
  • · Certification or registration from a provincial or federal professional association or regulatory body
  • · Consideration for applicants with a completed bachelor’s degree in a related field (social work, counselling psychology)
  • · Consideration for applicants in the process of obtaining the appropriate licencing to practice psychotherapy in Ontario (CRPO, OCSWSSW)
  • · Academic and professional development requirements to secure registration from a provincial regulatory body
  • · Ability to demonstrate expertise in the field of Mental Health & Addictions through a combination of experience and training
  • · Knowledge and ability to assess, screen, safety plan, and provide best practice counselling
  • · Awareness and ability to recognize and assess levels of risk and provide appropriate interventions and safety planning.
  • · Ability to work autonomously with capacity to work within a team
  • · Knowledge of community resources for the purpose of networking, collaboration, and referral when required and/or a willingness to learn the resources available
  • · Dependable, competent and continued ability to carry out responsibilities
  • · Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the job.
  • · Willingness to travel within district sites
  • · Understanding of diversity and cultural competency as it affects different populations and service delivery including, but not limited to: gender, sexual orientation & identity, and First Nation population and communities

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • · Conduct intake sessions utilizing required screening tools to determine service needs and monitor clients as needed
  • · Provide case management, service navigation and referral to clients as required
  • · Intervene in crisis situations including de-escalation and safety planning
  • · Assist individuals with connection to the most appropriate resource available
  • · Provide individualized, client-centered, and best practice counselling
  • · Employ counseling interventions, ensuring the methods of treatment and the standards of practice are consistent with the scope of practice of the specific professional using them.
  • · Collaborate with agencies/services in the community, and family members, wherever appropriate, for the purpose of adequate information gathering, consolidating and coordinating client treatment
  • · Provide single-session, solution-oriented counselling
  • · Support clients in achieving goals related to social and coping skills development, problem solving, and emotion regulation
  • · Facilitate groups with the purpose of increasing awareness and improving knowledge of mental health concerns
  • · Participate in case conferences for effective interdisciplinary service collaboration as required
  • · Participates in mental health initiatives to contribute and facilitate the enhancement of district awareness of programs and services
  • · Maintains effective working relationships within community and corporation
  • · Attend relevant hospital–based multidisciplinary meetings to coordinate referrals, shared client care, and community health improvement initiatives.
  • · Engage in professional development opportunities that will enhance client care and the Agency’s strategic plans. As part of this process, to use the internet to access information related to resources for professional development and best practices.
  • · To develop specialization(s) in skills and competencies required by the service.
  • · Engage in administrative tasks as needed, and other responsibilities that may be delegated by the Director of Mental Health & Addictions

 

HOURS OF WORK: This position is day shifts (Monday to Friday)

POSITION AVAILABLE: This Full-Time position will commence ASAP
