Part Time Registered Practical Nurse – Visiting Specialty Clinics

REPORTS TO (Title):

Director, Therapeutic Services

The Specialty Clinic has one opening for a Part Time Registered Practical Nurse at La Verendrye General Hospital. The successful candidate must be able to meet the normal requirements of the job and possess the following qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  •     Graduate of a Registered Practical Nursing Program and currently certified with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  •     Demonstration of strong nursing practice, skill, and judgement
  •     Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively independently, within a team, with front line staff, and management.
  •     Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast paced healthcare environment with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload
  •     Demonstrated critical thinking, leadership and mentoring skills.
  •     Exhibits the ability and competence to work with all computer systems and applications.
  •     Exercises behaviours consistent with Riverside Health Care’s Code of Conduct
  •     Retains a reliable attendance record.
  •     Ability to execute the essential duties of the job.
  •     Willing to work flexible hours including days, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  •     Dependable, competent and with mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  •     Conduct all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
  •     Must be competent with the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

 

BASIC REPONSIBILITIES:

1   . Performs according to the Standards of Professional Practice set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario and in compliance with the policies, procedures and standards of Riverside Health Care Facilities.

2   . Accepts clinical responsibility and professional accountability for the care delivered to assigned patients.

3   . Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, fulfilling responsibilities as a member of the nursing discipline.

4   . Complies with The Ethical Framework for Nurses in Ontario (College of Nurses of Ontario).

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1          1. Delivers direct/indirect patient care according to the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and in compliance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing,

2. Patient assessment: Obtains a history and initial and ongoing assessment of nursing needs of assigned patients. Record patient vitals and prepare patient and room for examination

3. Implementation: Coordinate and execute the physician orders according to the plan of care

4. Direct patient care: deliver various nursing treatments, administer medications, perform wound care, injections, or provide other specialised procedures as needed for the clinic's focus

5. Collaboration: work efficiently as part of the larger interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other nurses, physicians and specialists

6. Documentation: Maintain accurate, concise, confidential and timely records of patient care, assessments, history and encounter data in the Electronic Medical Record system.

7. Educate patients regarding different tests, if needed.

8. Complete pre-operative and other forms required by the clinic

9. Clinic Operations: assist with clinic flow, manage incoming patient calls, and help prepare the clinic environment

10. Participates in the orientation of new staff

11. Attends and participates in appropriate courses, conferences and workshops to promote professional growth and development.

12. Demonstrates the ability and competence to work with all computer systems and applications, such as but not limited to Meditech, Word, Excel.

13. Such other duties as may be designated by the Director, Therapeutic Services

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT / RISK MANAGEMENT

  •     Participate in the department's quality improvement activities.
  •     Maintain workload measurements records in compliance with MIS guidelines.
  •     Carry out all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures. (ie. Occupational Health and Safety Act)
