The Administration department has an opening for a Full Time Assistant Director of Care position. The successful candidate must be able to meet the normal requirements of the job and possess the following qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY

  •       Bachelor of Science in Nursing, current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses;
  •       Demonstrated knowledge of nursing clinical care and gerontology;
  •       3 years relevant supervisory experience, preferably in Long Term Care;
  •       In-depth knowledge and understanding of Fixing Long Term Care Act and Ontario Regulations and the College of Nurses standards;
  •       Highly effective leadership, facilitation, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  •       Ability to build effective relationships and work productively in a team environment;
  •       Ability to effectively manage a multi-disciplinary staff in an unionized environment;
  •       Advanced working knowledge of the internet, MS Office, specifically Excel and Word, Point Click Care (PCC). Inter-RAI-LTCF experience an asset;
  •       Knowledge of and experience with financial management and expenditure control preferred;
  •       Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations;
  •       Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills;
  •       Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively independently, within a team, with front line personnel, and management;
  •       Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload;
  •      Proven ability to perform the essential duties of the position on a regular basis.

 

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director of Care, oversees and manages the work and services provided by the nursing staff to meet the nursing and personal care needs of the residents within a multidisciplinary team environment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.     Responsible for the management of day-to-day operations and activities of the Registered Practical Nurses and Health Care Attendants (Personal Support Workers) in the Nursing Department.
  2.     Assistant Director of Care in the management of human resources through a collaborative approach with corporate Human Resources, employees and unions.
  3.     Assistant Director of Care in developing annual goals and objectives consistent with mission and strategic direction of the organization.
  4.     Assists with the development and evaluation of policies and procedures ensuring compliance with all legislated standards and regulations.
  5.    Implement best practices and continuous quality initiatives to ensure resident and staff satisfaction.
  6.     Acts as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
  7.     Assists with overseeing the Inter-RAI program.
  8.     In collaboration with Corporate, ensures all mandatory education is completed.
  9.     Assist in assessing and evaluating the nursing service programs ensuring compliance with Provincial standards and legislations.
  10.    Conduct analysis and follow up of issues related to resident care, infection control, nursing quality and risk management programs.
  11.    Assistant Director of Care in the development and administration of the annual operating and capital budget
  12.    Establish, participate and/or lead committees as required.
  13.    Identify ethical issues and collaborate with the Director of Care for resolution.
  14.  Provide clinical information for Corporate IT decision support
  15.  In the absence of the Director of Care assume responsibility for the administration of the nursing department.
  16.  Carry out work assignments safely and is knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fixing Long Term Care Act and Ontario Regulations).
  17. To facilitate and manage student placements, as a Student Placement Coordinator will act as the liaison between the LTC home and educational institutions. Responsible for the onboarding, orientation and management of student placements in compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations and LTC home-specific policies.
  18.  Perform other such duties or responsibilities that may be delegated or assigned.
