REPORTS TO (TITLE):

Professional Practice Specialist

The Nursing Supervisor is a cross-organizational leadership role reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice. The supervisor is on-site acting as delegate for hospital leaders (Directors & Managers during and outside of regular hours. You will provide front-line collaborative leadership and be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of RHC during and after hours, weekdays, evening, night, weekends, and holidays. This supervisory role ensures the safe, utilization of systems, protocols, and resources in the delivery of inter-professional care to patients. Your role will oversee responsibility for resource allocation and utilization, patient access and flow planning, and risk management.

In addition, your responsibilities include communicating as necessary with the Administration On-Call and the Senior Leadership Team related to the escalation of bed management plans, and crisis management.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

· Undergraduate degree in Nursing recognized equivalent;

· Current BCLS, ACLS, TNCC, CTAS, NRP, PALS certificates/training required;

· Minimum of three 3 years of acute care nursing practice

· Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.

· Good knowledge of the operations of all hospital departments an asset.

· Knowledge of resource allocation in hospitals including human resources

· Knowledge of collective agreements (ONA, CUPE)

· Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving

· Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning

· Confidence in decision-making

· Creative and flexible leadership style

· Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues, and physicians

· Ability to assist staff in integrating cultural awareness, patient-centred into clinical practice and promoting interprofessional teamwork

· Collaborative approach to teaching, learning, and conflict management

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •        Have ongoing opportunities to learn and grow with generous professional development programmes
  •       Be part of a team of high-performing health care professionals
  •     Assumes a leadership role and takes lead in emergency situations that may arise in the Hospital; adhering to Hospital protocols and procedures as outlined in the emergency planning manual in these situations (i.e. code blue, code red, etc) and follow up as appropriate.
  •     Leads or participates in projects, committees, working groups or councils pertaining to strategic and operational significance as required.
  •     Responsible for planning, developing, facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating educational opportunities for nursing staff, including orientation and skills development in new technology, medications, and procedures for a broad range of practice competencies and medical directives based on patient population.
  •     Lead to resolve any issues or complaints that arise during the shift.
  •     Maintain a strong line of communication with appropriate Program managers/Directors/Physician Leaders for clinical and non-clinical issues; including the provision of shift-based documentation to ensure continuity.
  •     Address patient/family concerns and facilitates resolutions as appropriate.
  •     Completes safety walkabouts on the patient care units in conjunction with staff and take action to address issues identified.
  •     Monitors attendance of all staff, documents sick and absent calls and arrange for replacement staff.
  •     Ensure compliance with all legislated requirements, professional, and accreditation standards for care and safety of staff and patients.
  •      Educational resource for nursing staff and other members of the health care team in supporting the development of policies and procedures that promote evidence-based practice, professional, personal development and educational activities.

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT:

  • This position will be required to work days, evening, nights, weekends
  • This Full Time Interim position will commence: As soon as possible and end approx. January 2027 with possible extension.
