Rehabilitation Services
Our goal is to assist individuals to attain their highest possible level of active and independent function while providing safe, quality client-centred care through a commitment to service availability, accessibility, and excellence. A Doctor or Nurse Practitioner referral is required for Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology. No referral is required for our Pre-School Speech Language Services.
Rehabilitation is typically covered by OHIP or WSIB. Those not covered, such as out-of-province or out-of-country, must see the Admitting Department to make billing arrangements.
Patient referrals are prioritized using a regional standardization system, it is our goal to see high priority patients within 7 business days. Conditions that require treatment as soon as possible include post fractures, post surgical, paediatrics and urgent acute injuries.

Occupational Therapy
Our Occupational Therapy (OT) service at La Verendrye General Hospital is provided to inpatients and outpatients between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Our primary goal is to enable people to participate in the occupations which give meaning and purpose to their lives. OT is designed to restore or maintain a patient's ability to perform tasks used in daily living, often through developing ways to modify or adapt activities. Our therapists can assess for equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, adaptive aids and can fill out funding paperwork to access the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) grant program. This program also provides cognitive assessments and treatment for memory, concentration, visual-spatial, problem-solving and executive function impairments. Pre-driving screen assessment and custom fabricated splinting is also available.

Physiotherapy (LVGH)
Our Physiotherapy (PT) service is provided to inpatients and outpatients between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. The PT service is designed to maintain functional independence and physical performance by promoting fitness, health and wellness. We assess and treat a variety of conditions including orthopaedic dysfunctions, post-surgery and fractures, repetitive strain injuries, work and sports related injuries, motor vehicle victims, arthritis or rheumatic conditions, stroke or neurologic conditions. PT can assess the need for mobility devices and fill out funding paperwork to access the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) grant program.
PT also provides many different group classes:
- Post total knee and total hip replacement classes: offered 3 times per week after orthopaedic surgeries.
- GLA:D: an 8-week education and exercise program delivered by certified therapists for people with symptoms of hip or knee osteoarthritis (OA). The program includes 2-3 education classes and 12 exercise sessions.

Physiotherapy (Emo)
Our Emo location (located in the Emo Health Centre) offers service to outpatients between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. In addition to the variety of conditions PT assesses and treats, Acupuncture and Vestibular Rehab are offered at this location.

Speech-Language Pathology
Our Speech-Language Pathology service at La Verendrye General Hospital is provided to inpatients and outpatients between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. This program involves assessment and treatment of children and adults for communication disorders, including articulation, fluency (stuttering), early language development, expressive language (understanding), voice, and oral-motor skills. This includes swallowing disorders, functional and behavioural feeding and swallowing difficulties. It also includes public education and counselling regarding improved communication.
