Full-time Interim – Assistant Director of Care

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a valued member of our Management team, you will oversee Resident care in accordance with the legislation, standards of practice and offer leadership and guidance to the personal care staff. Under the supervision of the Director of Care, the ADOC is responsible to plan, organize, control and evaluate the delivery of excellent nursing care and services. The ADOC advocates for quality of life for the residents by modelling leadership, ethics, advocacy, and excellence in the assessment process ensuring safe resident-focused experience.

The ADOC actively leads and contributes to Rainycrest’s Care team meetings, committees, care planning, and resident Care Conferences. Reporting to the Director of Care, the ADOC will lead an interprofessional team to achieve the key performance targets related to clinical outcomes, resident/family experience, staff experience, and operational effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

  • Post RN education and experience in gerontology or related field preferred.

  • 3 years’ experience in long term care preferred; previous management/supervisory experience an asset

  • Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education and quality improvement

  • Knowledge of Resident Assessment Instrument-Minimum Data Set (RAI MDS)

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, evidence-based nursing and healthcare practices; demonstrates commitment in providing quality Resident focussed care and services

  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to coach, mentor and provide feedback while fostering a positive work culture

  • Demonstrated commitment to person-centered care to function effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to manage workload with competing priorities, excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Word; Excel, computerized resident care and assessment programs

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. At the direction of the Director of Care, provide direct supervision to the Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) and Personal Support Workers (PSW) within the nursing department.

  2. Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources.

  3. MaintainsanactivepresenceintheResidentHomeAreasmentoringstaffwhileoverseeing the provision of quality resident care.

  4. Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; participates in return to work meeting with corporate Staff Health Nurse and Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator.

  5. Manage human resources through a collaborative approach with corporate Human Resources, employees and unions.

  6. ImplementandevaluatepoliciesandproceduresinaccordancewiththeFLTCA,Collegeof Nurses Standards and other Provincial legislation.

  7. Effectively supports the RAI-MDS program.

  8. Assists the Director of Care with input to Performance Conversations/Appraisals

  9. Oversee the implementation of ‘best practices’ and Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure quality resident care and staff satisfaction.

  10. Support the Director of Care in providing coordination and support for medical and pharmacy services programs

  11. Support the Director of Care in organizing and delivering education/training initiatives promoting nursing professional development and continuing education.

  12. Support the Director of Care in undertaking statistical analysis of quality care data for benchmarking/comparison of indicators to other facilities in the industry.

  13. Under the supervision of the Director of Care, participate in the development of the annual operating and capital budget ensuring adequate staffing and resources within nursing envelope.

  14. Participate and/or lead committees as required as delegated by the Administrator and Director of Care.

  15. Maintain a liaison with hospital, medical staff, community, and health care related disciplines and partners to ensure the most effective provision of care delivery in the facility.

  16. Provide input to the Director of Care and Administrator for resolution of ethical issues through the Ethics Committee.

  17. Carries out work assignments safely and is knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act).

  18. Performs other such duties or responsibilities as delegated or assigned.

  19. Assumes responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the Director of Care Committees:

As an ADOC you will actively participate in and facilitate the continuous quality improvement programs in Long Term Care such as;

  • Pharmacy & Therapeutics

  • Pain & Palliative Care
